Pandas have a thick coat of fur which traps air particles. Air is a good insulator because the particles are further apart so it becomes more difficult for the energy to be transferred. the panda also has a black and white coat. The white coat is good at reflecting the infrared radiation and the black is good at absorbing and emitting the radiation
There are five ways that heat may be transferred through fur: conduction along individual hair fibers; convection through air and vapor trapped in the pelt; natural and forced convection of the air against the fur; evaporation of water; and thermal radiation.
